The white ravens have been released from the Citadel. Jon Snow is on the march and Khaleesi is headed across the Narrow Sea with her dragons. It seems like the perfect time for Game of Thrones to release a line of white and red wines as golden and crimson as the Lannister house colors as the show enters its final seasons.
Certainly many of the characters on Game of Thrones down their weight in wine each episode (I’m looking at you, Tyrion and Cersei). But it still came as something of a delightful surprise to learn that the HBO show has partnered with Vintage Wine Estates to produce not one but three Game of Thrones-themed wines coming this spring. Vintage Wine Estates is a collection of family-owned wineries like B.R. Cohn, Clos Pegase, Swanson Vineyards and Windsor Vineyards among others, so they’ve got an impressive portfolio to draw from.
The show-themed wines will include a $19.99 Chardonnay, a red blend for $19.99 and a reserve-style Cabernet Sauvignon for $39.99. So you won’t be able to use a silver coin from Braavos to pay, though you also won’t have to take out a loan from the Iron Bank. I wonder if it comes from Dorn, like all the best wines in the seven kingdoms do.
While there is no exact release date yet, the new wines should be available in stores just in time for the seventh-season premier in March. That way, we can send off both hated and beloved characters who are sure to meet ghastly ends with a fitting cry of Valar Morghulis.
For those of you who just can’t wait, Game of Thrones already partnered with esteemed microbrewery Omegang for a line of GOT-branded beers, which you can find here.
If you get your hands on a bottle of GOT wine, be sure to tweet me about it @clustercrush!
